Conference & Training Centre in Măgurele

In November 2018, PORR Construct S.R.L. signed a contract with the Horia Hulubei National Institute of Physics and Nuclear Engineering. We were assigned the design and construction of a conference & training centre project located in Măgurele, Ilfov County, close to Bucharest.

The new centre will be an integrated part of ELI-NP, a project we have already been involved in. ELI-NP is short for “Extreme Light Infrastructure – Nuclear Physics”. Its objective is to become the world’s most advanced research facility focusing on the study of photonuclear physics and its applications. Its core piece will be a very high intensity laser of two 10 PetaWatts ultra-short pulse lasers and the most brilliant tunable gamma-ray beam – the world’s most powerful laser, according to the World Record Academy. This unique experimental combination should enable ELI-NP to tackle a wide range of research topics in fundamental physics, nuclear physics and astrophysics, and also conduct applied research in materials science, the management of nuclear materials and life sciences.

After having successfully completed works for IFIN Horia Hulubei in the past, this is the second project that we are working on together. Our scope of work in this versatile project includes all kinds of construction work on a gross built area of 2,226m². The new building has a height of 12.60m with a ground and first floor.

The ground floor covers more than 1,080m² and offers space for 22 rooms including a conference room with about 340 seats, three meeting rooms with 36 seats and one 3D-training room with a capacity for 20 seats. The first floor has an area of 970m² providing space for 19 rooms including a show room and catering space as well as office areas and the front office. On top of that, PORR also conducts work on green areas, roads and streets, HVAC works, BMS as well as the installation of a wireless CATV system.

Thanks to the dedicated work of our experts and the whole team, we are on schedule and will finish all works as planned by January 2020.
