German School Bucharest

PORR has constructed a new educational campus for the DSBU (Deutsche Schule Bukarest or “German School Bucharest”) on a site of more than 9 hectares, with space for 500 pupils.

The journey begins. At the DSBU, children from more than ten different countries between the age of 18 months and 18 years all live and study under one roof. The new campus is designed to be both a residential and a learning environment and must serve a variety of functions. It is a space for action and interaction. The challenges involved in the construction were as diverse as the children who are taught there.

A learning environment at the cutting edge. The education campus comprises a number of different buildings. In addition to a crèche and a nursery school serving 180 pre-school children, PORR also built primary, secondary, and high school facilities on the site for the older pupils, along with an administration building.

The assembly hall is the main meeting space and seats 148 people. The state-of-the-art gym is built to accommodate 220 people and offers plenty of space for various activities. The modern canteen with a cook-and-serve kitchen caters for 166 pupils.

Growing together. In addition to the diverse buildings, large outdoor facilities were also created with a variety of community spaces. These include recreational areas and green spaces for leisure activities as well as roads and car parks. The sports facilities, for example the basketball court or the multi-purpose sports field with running tracks, offer plenty of space for activities. The DSBU is already considering expanding the campus even further due to high demand.
